How Podcasting Changed My Business

I really love sharing…

behind the scenes episodes.

It’s a joy for me to open up the vault so to speak and show you exactly how I implement all of the marketing tactics and strategies we talk about on this show.

Not only that, it’s important to me that I depict what works for me - and what doesn’t - as I build my online business.

See, it’s not only about strategy, it’s about lifestyle.

And no matter how effective or trendy some business technique may be, if it’s not something that brings ease into growing your side hustle, it’s not something that’s going to bring results.

We have to weigh the reward with the effort, energy, time, and other investments it takes to make it happen.

Which is why I feel so strongly about podcasting as my marketing channel.

It’s the only marketing platform that fits into my life right now and allows me to teach and share freely. And it’s the fact that I can settle in and show up so authentically that I have such great results.

So this week, I’m breaking down exactly how having a podcast has changed my business. I share the strategies I tried in the past and why they didn’t work for me, and I also dive into audience growth and revenue numbers to give you an accurate look at how having this show had built my business.

Collaborating to Grow Your Side Hustle

Your net worth…

is in your network.

Which is basically a fancy way of saying that the connections and relationships you build while growing your side hustle are a huge factor in your success.

There is absolutely value and merit to your knowledge, your expertise, and your worldview. But relying solely on these individual strengths will only get you so far on the path of building your side hustle.

It’s like to old adage says, "if you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far go together."

You can certainly forge ahead on your own, and you can see great results, but it truly is the partnerships in your business that will help you see tremendous growth.

That’s not to say you need to spend all of your time, effort, or energy making connections.

It’s not about having A TON of relationships, its about having quality relationships.

And it’s worth it to intentionally invest in a few key people to go along on the journey with you.

In today's episode, we’re continuing the conversation from the past few weeks to make big leaps in our side hustles and move beyond imposter syndrome by turning our competitors into contemporaries and collaborators.

Competition = Validation and Why It's a Good Thing

Nothing shuts down a new and exciting idea…

faster than seeing someone else doing the exact same thing.

No matter how much passion or fire we have for the project, coming face to face with a competitor can make our new course, group program, or membership site feel like the dumbest thing we’ve thought of in a long time.

And while competition can cause us to feel extremely small, it’s not that far fetched that we would feel uncomfortable contending with someone else who’s trying to do some good in the world.

We are biologically predisposed to go with the group, not to stand out from it.

But fear of competition can snowball quickly into emotions like scarcity and imposter syndrome which can not only shut down our side hustle ideas, they can keep us from ever starting up again.

So what’s important as an entrepreneur is to not withdraw from competition, but to see it in a different way.

This week, I’m sharing why competition actually validates the idea for your side hustle and how it can be a catalyst for you to help more people, make more money, and do your best work.

It’s no secret that Covid-19 has thrown our economy for a loop.

COACHING EPISODE: Tamara Chats Taking a Break

Taking a step back…

is not the same as giving up altogether.

I’ve said a million times that our side hustles should be additive. They should be something we choose to do in addition to all the other obligations we have in our lives because they serve us well.

Maybe for you that’s in the form of extra money, or extra joy, or in the ability to use your skills in new, creative ways.

When our side hustles serve us in these ways, they can feel like a really great part of our lives. A natural extension of our careers and something that brings us closer to our values-based dreams.

However, there are certainly times where our side hustles feel like they’re dragging us down rather than lifting us up.

Today, with the state of the world it can be hard to think of spreading ourselves any thinner than we already are. There’s nothing we’d rather do less than occupy any more of our brain space with additional to-do’s or expend any more precious energy on carrying them out.

But what does it mean for those well-intentioned goals or long sought after dreams if we stop building our side businesses?

You Don't Need a Website to Start Your Side Hustle

Websites are…

big, time and/or money consuming projects.

You have to think about the function and design of the site as well as the copy you write for every single page.

A lot goes into making sure your website accurately reflects your style and will actually convert lookers into buyers.

Business doesn’t seem possible in today’s world without a website, but would you be surprised to hear that you don’t need one at all to get your side hustle off the ground?

It’s absolutely true you need an online presence for your online income stream to work, but this doesn’t mean you need a fully built website.

You simply need a way to capture leads and to take money. Which can be put together in a single weekend for FREE.

In this week’s episode, I’m busting the myth of needing a website, breaking down barriers, and showing you how you can get your side hustle up and running super fast and without breaking the bank.

Stop Creating Your Program Before You've Sold It

The natural next step…

after coming up with a great idea is to go out and create it.

To harness all of that buzz and excitement and pour hours into bringing this new project to life.

It feels pretty amazing to cross the finish line and to look at this new, tangible thing you’ve created.

But when it comes to building your online income stream, creating your program is actually the very last step, not the first.

See, creating your course, membership site, or group program can take hours, days, or weeks.

And devoting that time to creation first is a risky move that takes you away from serving your audience and making sales.

So this week, I’m showing you why it’s essential to pre-sell your program before you ever create it, so you can mitigate your risk, pay yourself for your hard work, and serve your customers better and faster.

It’s undeniable…

that one of the biggest concerns of starting a side hustle is not having the time. But the number one thing they’re always concerned with is how much time it's going to take.Don’t get me wrong, building an online income stream doesn't happen overnight. If you want to add a supplemental arm to your practice, you’re going to have to make decisions with your time and sometimes those decisions are going to be difficult.

My goal for you is to be able to make those hard decisions with more confidence.

Because, when we don’t know where the time is coming from to spend on our side hustle or what we’re doing with that time - that’s when overwhelm kicks in.  So this week, I’m taking you behind the scenes of how I operate my online income stream. I’m sharing how I arrived at a 16 hour work week, what I prioritize within my schedule, and the productivity tips I lean into to make it happen as best I can.
