COACHING EPISODE: Overcoming Licensure Limitations with an Online Income Stream

As therapists…

we owe a lot to the regulations of our profession. They protect us and hold the therapy industry to high standards. And even more importantly, they ensure that our clients are looked after during times of their lives they might not be in the best positions to look after themselves. But, if I'm honest, sometimes the rules outlined by our state boards feel a lot like red tape. And they can make it feel as if we're a bit handcuffed when it comes to making money and helping others.

Our clinical skills are so needed right now, and the online space gives up an opportunity to repackage them in a way that can benefit people beyond our states and beyond our licenses.

that life is just easier when we love our jobs.We spend so much of our waking hours working, and when we’re adding on a side hustle we spend even more. Is Your Brand Ready for 2020?

Have you ever felt…

like you didn’t quite fit the mold?

Like everyone else was able to stick to the plan or accomplish the task and you kept being drawn to something else that was more enticing and exciting?

Sometimes we call this shiny object syndrome. Aligning our need for the new and novel with being distracted.

But what if your need to move on wasn’t simply the fact that you were preoccupied? What if you were called?

Sara intimidated the crap out of me when I first met her. She was so knowledgeable about so many things and her grasp of such diverse topics made her seem so sure of herself and confident.

When Sara joined Side Hustle, she was confident about something else. She knew without a doubt that her program had to matter.

She refused to be just another voice in the sea of internet noise and she truly wanted to help people.

And this conviction was just the start of her realization of just how much of a visionary she truly is.

Most of the time what sets you apart isn’t a drawback. It’s really just a calling to settle into your zone of genius.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Eileen Chats Resilience

Once in a while…

you just have to keep going.

And when life throws you something really, really hard, you have to somehow find the courage, strength, grit, or whatever else you want to call it to make it through.

This is exactly how I felt in the early days of parenting a child with a birth defect.

I had no idea what to expect day after day, and yet, I had to put one foot in front of the other every single moment in order to care for my daughter.

This is why I was so blown away when I met Eileen. She had dedicated her entire clinical practice to helping parents like me and she had a little voice inside that was urging her to do even more.

When Eileen joined Side Hustle, part of her mission was to make sure moms with “different” children never felt alone. But more so, she wanted parents to realize that they were the ones who needed to change.

You're Not Selfish for Wanting More

That therapist identity…

is strong tho.

Seriously, I don’t think I’ve encountered another profession in which a person’s work so wholly integrates into their sense of self.

And I actually think this is really beautiful. I mean, it’s this sense of calling that urges us to make people’s lives - and the world - better.

We dedicate ourselves to following the latest research, learning the most appropriate and effective modalities, and advocating for our clients. So that the work we do on a daily basis is the most impactful we can possibly make it. We truly drive change.

But, being a change-agent often comes at a cost.

With long hours, low pay, and heavy stories, there really are occupational hazards to being a therapist.

Because giving everything to our profession and our caseload to the detriment of ourselves doesn’t make us superheroes. It makes us martyrs.
